Suifenhe, located on the border of Heilongjiang Province in Northeast China, is known as a "city pulled by trains", a city that speaks Russian, a city that can use rubles, and a place where birds and insects wake up.
In this magical land, in 1984, Xu Junzhu, vice president of the China Soviet Union Friendship Association and head of the Suifenhe railway station, visited neighboring countries with 500 kilograms of watermelon. The world-famous "watermelon diplomacy" played the prelude to China's Suifenhe economic and trade cooperation with Russia (with the Soviet Union), attracting gold seekers from all over the country to settle down.
From the early barter trade to the current cross-border e-commerce, the constantly upgrading cross-border trade has brought a happy and prosperous life to the citizens of Suifenhe. By leveraging the advantages of border resources with Russia, the "century old port" of Suifenhe has embarked on a development path of national entrepreneurship, wealth, and prosperity towards a moderately prosperous society.
"Suifenhe Station is the largest railway port to Russia in Heilongjiang Province, and also one of the important entry and exit ports for China Europe trains.
The Suifenhe Railway Port plays an irreplaceable role in the bulk trade with neighboring friendly Russia. "Guo Hongchen, the director of the Suifenhe Station Handover Station Workshop, is familiar with Russian products." Russia has abundant products, strong complementarity in Sino Russian trade, and timber, coal, iron ore, and other goods are continuously transported from the Suifenhe Railway Port to various parts of China
In August 2018, the first China Europe freight train was launched, further consolidating and enhancing the transportation advantages of the port, bringing together more high-quality production factors and market entities, providing a rare historical opportunity for exploring more replicable and promotable experiences in border areas, and providing a broad stage for contributing to the revitalization and development of the port.
Since the opening of the first China Europe train, the number of trains operating at Suifenhe Port Station has rapidly increased year by year, from 22 trains operating in the first year to annual freight volume exceeding 100 and 200 trains, and then to breaking the 500 train barrier in 2021, achieving three consecutive increases. The frequency of train operation has increased from an initial monthly average of 6 trains to a monthly average of 46 trains, with a total of over 1100 trains operating. In March of this year, 67 trains were operating in a single month, setting a new historical high, "said Li Yigang, deputy director of the handover workshop at Suifenhe Station.
Nowadays, from transporting energy such as wood, coal, and iron ore to daily necessities, electrical products, industrial machinery, agricultural and sideline products, Suifenhe Port Station has become a prosperous, open, and dynamic international port station.
